The BIG Idea: Family is designed for our good and God’s glory.

What does it mean to honor father and mother?

1. To value the significance of parenthood and thus family, itself.

2. To do what parents say while under their authority (Eph 6:1-4).

3. To care for parents as they age.

Why are we to honor father and mother?

1. It honors God.

2. It is Christ-like (Luke 2:51; John 19:26-27).

3. It is blessed by God.

4. It builds society.

But what if my parents are not honorable?

1. Take responsibility for who you are in the Lord.

2. Honor your parents for what you can. Honor those who stepped in for you.

3. Forgive your parents for their sake, your sake, and the Lord.

4. Pray for your parents’ repentance and faith in Jesus.
