From Darkness to Light

Two illustrations:

• The encounter Jesus had was with the leaders of Israel.

• The encounter Jesus had was with the disciples.

• These encounters demonstrate two types of spiritual blindness: Permanent and

Temporary.

Jesus is the one who teaches us to recognize hypocrisy. (1-4)

They have the wrong motives. (Matthew 22:16-18, John 8: 3-7)

They have the wrong values. (Matthew15:7-9)

They have the wrong lifestyles. (4)

Jesus is the one who warns us to resist false teaching. (5-12)

His command emphasizes the serious nature of this matter.

Their conclusion shows us how easily we can miss the point. (7)

His correction concerning what they had concluded reminded them

that the bread was not the issue. (8-11)

Their comprehension of what Jesus meant became clear to them and should

be clear to all of us. (12)
